And climbing stairs is difficult with hip or knee pain. Exercises can help.<\/p>\n<p>These 5 exercises help improve hand mobility.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do each exercise slowly and deliberately<\/li>\n<li>Hold each position for about 8 seconds<\/li>\n<li>Do each exercise 10 times<\/li>\n<li>Repeat twice a day<\/li>\n<li>Stop if you feel numbness or pain during or after exercising<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>EXERCISE 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Place your forearm on a table or a sweater as padding with your hand hanging off the edge of the table, with your palm down.<\/li>\n<li>Move the hand upward until you feel a gentle stretch.<\/li>\n<li>Return to the starting position.<\/li>\n<li>Bend your elbow and repeat the same motion but now with your palm facing up.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>EXERCISE 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Support your forearm on a table or a sweater as padding, thumb upward.<\/li>\n<li>Move the wrist up and down through its full range of motion, as if you were hitching a lift.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>EXERCISE 3<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Sit with your arm at your side with your elbow bent to 90 degrees, palm facing down.<\/li>\n<li>Twist your forearm so that your palm first faces up and then down.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>EXERCISE 4<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Support your hand face up on the table.<\/li>\n<li>Spread your thumb outwards.to the side.<\/li>\n<li>Move your thumb backwards and forwards across your palm.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>EXERCISE 5<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Hold your hand up with your fingers straight up \u00e2\u20ac\u201c facing away.<\/li>\n<li>Clench your fist.<\/li>\n<li>Straighten up your fingers to the starting position.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you have arthritis in your hands and you cannot bend your thumb without pain, you may have difficulty doing a simple thing like opening a jar.
