Because, after this age, people\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s nutritional needs increase at the very time that their ability to absorb and utilise vital nutrients starts to decrease.<\/strong><br \/>\nRDAs are established at \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcadequate\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 levels to prevent deficiency diseases \u00e2\u20ac\u201c like scurvy or rickets \u00e2\u20ac\u201c not at optimised levels to counteract accumulated damage. Adequate is not optimum.<br \/>\nAll of which is why many doctors dismiss inexpensive, RDA based, A-Z supplements as largely ineffective.<br \/>\nAnd that scepticism is supported by research \u00e2\u20ac\u201c there is little evidence that multi-vitamins alone reduce the risk of heart disease or cancer.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px; color: #808000;\"><strong>That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s because they have been separated from other elements that make a plant-based diet unquestionably healthy \u00e2\u20ac\u201c the other elements being plant micro-nutrients like carotenoids, isoflavones and flavonoids \u00e2\u20ac\u201c along with fibre.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Omega 3 is another nutrient that has been separated from other elements in its original environment. As long ago as 2015 Dr Paul Clayton stated that: <em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Taking fish oil on its own as a magic-bullet single supplement just doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t work.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Of course, that insight has now been supported by the latest research. But it doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t mean that Omega 3 isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t a very valuable nutrient to take.
